Scrabble Day

April 13, 2015 by Kristin Leave a Comment

I have been told I am too scary to play scrabble with.  Certain people in my life will not play with me due to my competitiveness once those letters come out!  But, if you are going to get to play Scrabble today, you might want to check out these tips to rock your game!

  • Two letter words with no vowels: MM, SH, HM
  • Longest word with no vowels: CRWTHS (plural – a welsh stringed instrument also called a crowd or rote)
  • Too many vowels? Here is a word made of all vowels: EUOUAE
  • Highest possible score on the first turn: MUZJIKS (128 points)  It means Russian peasant.
  • Another great word to know that can get rid of lots of vowels: OUGUIYA (Mauritanian currency)
  • Some two letter all vowel words: AA, AE, AI, OE, OI, OY, YA, YE, YO
  • High scoring two letter words:
    • OX -9 pts – noun, plural oxen for 1, 2, oxes for 3.
      1. the adult castrated male of the genus Bos, used chiefly as a draft animal.
      2. any member of the bovine family.
      3. Informal. a clumsy, stupid fellow.
    • EX –  9 pts – There are multiple definitions of this one, but this definition should be good enough to score you the points. ‘A former spouse or a former partner in a long-term romantic relationship; ex-wife, ex-husband, or ex-lover.’
    • XI – 9 pts – noun, plural xis.
      1. the 14th letter of the Greek alphabet (Ξ, ξ).
      2. the group of consonant sounds represented by this letter.
    • JO – 9 pts – noun, plural joes.
      1. beloved one; darling; sweetheart.
    • XU – 9 pts – noun, plural xu.
      1. an aluminum coin and monetary unit of Vietnam, the 100th part of adong.
    • KA – 6 pts – noun, Egyptian Religion
      1. a spiritual entity, an aspect of the individual, believed to live within thebody during life and to survive it after death.
    • ZA – Slang for pizza. If you don’t allow slang in your scrabble game – you probably wouldn’t get away with this one!

Hi, so glad you are here!

Every day has a celebration! Some days celebrate a certain food, idea, or activity. Sometimes a day is set aside to remember or to increase awareness of a need. Each and every day should be celebrated by spending time with family and friends enjoying whatever time we are given.
