Caramelly, buttery, warm, spiced….what? Oh, I had you at caramel? This dessert is basically hot buttered rum over lightly cooked apples. It is simple and oh so decadent. Comes together in 15 minutes.
All you need to do is peel and slice your apples, toss some butter in a saucepan, with some brown sugar and nutmeg until dissolved.
Then add your apple slices and let them cook away, giving a stir every once and a while. Add a pinch of salt and some rum…

Sauteed Apples in Salted Caramel Rum Sauce
Serves 6
INGREDIENTS
4 apples, peeled and sliced
3 Tablespoons salted butter
3 Tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 cup spiced rum
crushed gingersnaps for topping (optional)
DIRECTIONS
- Peel and slice apples.
- Melt butter over medium low heat, add brown sugar and nutmeg. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the sliced apples to the pot. Stir to coat.
- Cook apples about 15 minutes until tender but not mushy, stirring occasionally.
- Add salt and rum. Cook an additional 2-3 minutes.
